Muga Silk (Golden Thread) occupies a unique position in the Assamese cultural sensibilities so much so that without it, the very identity and existence of its people would remain incomplete. The cultivation of muga is endemic to Assam since time immemorial. It is manufactured from the cocoon of a silkworm ‘Antheraea Assamensis’ found only in the Brahmaputra Valley.

The color of Muga Silk is naturally golden and it is the only silk whose color does not fade even after generational use. The Muga silkworm also plays an important role in environmental protection by means of agro-forestry conservation and sustainable use of muga.

Raw Muga Silk is hand reeled single yarn that we process in Schlafhorst Assembly Winding Machine to make 2-ply parallel yarn in cheese form. Then it is transferred to TFO Machine for twisting the yarn in different deniers (counts) that improves its evenness and strength for use in both warp and weft count in handloom. Finally, it is reeled to Hank form for handloom weaving. Orlina Silk Yarn has high resilience and durability. It also provides UV-protection. It is a natural and 100% chemical free Silk Yarn. It is an heirloom fabric that gets better with time, with increase in its comfort and softness.
